Overview

To address long-standing financial and compliance challenges in the advertising sector, AAAB organised its first-ever workshop dedicated to VAT and taxation, “The VAT and Tax Playbook: Financial Management for Agencies.”

Key Highlights

  • Participation from finance and accounts executives of 50+ leading advertising agencies.
  • Opening remarks by Syed Ahsanul Apon (General Secretary), who emphasized the sector’s market potential (BDT 12,028 crore annual value by 2025; 7.5 million employed, mostly youth) but also highlighted structural challenges including inconsistent VAT and tax rules.
  • Technical sessions delivered by industry experts:
    • Achinta Kumar Das (ASIATIC 360) on AIT, TDS, overseas tax, mandatory returns, and amendments.
    • Faisal Islam ACA (Dot Birth Ltd.) on VAT returns, rebates, deductions, compliance, and common mistakes.
    • Md. Ramzan Ali ACMA (FCB Bitopi) on banking, billing, contracts, financial transparency, and ethical practices.
  • AAAB leaders M.A. Maruf (Joint Secretary) and Sarah Ali (Treasurer) were present to engage with participants.

Takeaways & Impact

Participants left with a clearer understanding of VAT/TAX obligations, compliance tools, and strategies for financial transparency. AAAB also committed to submitting a reform proposal to the government, marking the event as both an educational and policy-driven milestone.
